Variprofile - the art of engineering at highest levels

Under the leadership of Joerg Adamczyk, managing director of SPW GmbH, our engineering team spent two years creating, defining and testing the VARIPROFILE.
Their task was to design a feathering propeller that would exceed the performance of all others, greatly simplify production, offer total flexibility, while maintaining their highest quality standards.

The results are spectacular: A feathering propeller with revolutionary performance. The blades were designed with the Hi-Tec Gawn profile, a first in the design of sailing propellers. The VARIPROFILE was born!

The slim hub and head assembly of the VARIPROFILE in combination with the GAWN profile result in remarkably increased efficiency actually exceeding that found in typical 3-blade standard fixed propeller with presumably advantaged twisted blades. And in addition, extremely quiet running is another hallmark of the VARIPROFILE

The drag under sail has been reduced to the vanishing point, and is actually lower than the drag of a folding propeller, thanks to the excellent hydro-dynamic design. Truly the best of both worlds, motoring and sailing.

The flexibility of allowing to combine different hub and head assemblies clearly increases the utilisation efficiency, irespective of having an S/D or shaft drive, and is just as prescribed by the design goals.

The VARIPROFILE is the perfect Allrounder for modern production yachts with engines up to 75 hp. Just like his big brother VARIPROP, the VARIPROFILE allows continously variable pitch adjustment, independently for forward and reverse. It is especially well suited to engines with different gear ratios such as predominantly used by Yanmar. Most importantly, this feature also allows the reduction/elimination of prop-walk in reverse for backing up straight and much safer docking and maneuvering.

Test results obtained from the Naval Testing Institute in Potsdam confirm the success of the design team in achieving every one of their goals.
