Simple Installation

Mounting a VARIPROFILE under your boat does not require an engineer. Pitches are pre-set at the factory to the theoretical optimum and easily understood installation instructions are provided.

Of course, you can and should fine tune pitches to your particular preferences, easily done either under water or usually after the first year’s experience.

Installation on a shaft

Figure 1:
Mount the hub on the taper and check proper fit (see PDF download of installation instructions). Insert the long counter bolt into the thread of the set screw on the hub.

Figure 2:
Apply a few drops of loc-tite medium(blue) on the threads of the shaft-nut.

Figure 3:
Install the shaft-nut on the shaft.

Figure 4:
Tighten the shaft nut with a torque-wrench to the specified value. Use your second hand to counter hold the hub with the counter bolt.

Figure 5:
Remove the counter bolt

Figure 6:
Apply loc-tite to the hub set-screw
Figure 7:
Insert the set-screw in the same thread previously used for the counter bolt and tighten to 15 Nm.

Figure 8:
Insert the 3 bolts M8x25 with washers into the designated holes of the hub and apply again loc-tite medium(blue) to the threads.

Figure 9:
Mount the blade assembly onto the hub, carefully aligning the pins. Tighten the M8x25 bolts (25 Nm) to secure the blade assembly firmly to the hub. Then apply loc-tite low (pink) to the 3 set screws securing the M8x25 bolts.

Figure 10:
Tighten the set screws M6x10 firmly (5 Nm). Check functions of the blades. They should turn easily from stop to stop.

Installation on a saildrive

Figure 1:
Check if your saildrive has been supplied with the appropriate distance ring between anode and propeller.  If not claim from your saildrive supplier.

Figure 2:
Place the S/D hub of the VARIPROFILE on the mating teeth of the S/D shaft

Figure 3:
Apply a little loc-tite low to the threads of the shaft-nut

Figure 4:
Place it on the shaft

Figure 5:
Tighten the nut firmly by counter holding the hub with the hook-wrench supplied, inserted into the threads of the set screws.

Figure 6:
Tighten the nut with a torque-wrench to the torque values of your respective S/D supplier. Counter hold the hub with the hook-wrench supplied.
Figure 7:
Apply a little loc-tite low to the security bolt M8x20 and insert into the thread on top of the shaft nut.

Figure 8:
Tighten security bolt firmly (15 Nm) to secure the shaft nut

Figure 9:
Mount the propeller assembly unto the hub, carefully aligning the mounting holes to the hub. Apply loc-tite medium(blue) to the 3 security bolts M8x12.

Figure 10:
Tighten the security bolts firmly (15 Nm) so that the head assembly is securely fastened.

Figure 11:
Check the blade functions. They should turn easily from stop to stop.
